Disney buys Pixar: Keep the great movies coming
Disney has agreed to
purchase Pixar Animations for $7.4B.
Thats a lot of money, but when you consider the success that
Disney/Pixar films have had over the years, it may be a good deal. Disney and Pixar created Toy Story, Toy Story II, Finding Nemo,
The Incredibles, Bugs Life, and Monsters Inc. These are widely considered some
the best animated kids movies in the last 15 years (along with Shrek and
Shrek II). They also made a
lot of money at the box office and in video and dvd
sales.
The next movie due out from
Disney and Pixar is Cars. Cars may very well have been
the last movie for the partnership as well, but now we should be enjoying
many Disney Pixar movies to come.
It also means that Disney will have the rights to all the Pixar
characters. So we will
probably get to see more Pixar characters atDisneyland and Walt Disney World as well as new
attractions and rides for the parks.
The purchase was announced
January 24, 2006. Once the
deal is final, the animation studios can start to work together to,
hopefully, create many more great family movies.
