Wimpy Kid comes to a Movie Theatre near you
The popular book series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, makes its way to the big screen as a feature movie on March 19, 2010. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series is written and illustrated by author Jeff Kinney. Originally on online comic strip on Funbrain.com, the Wimpy Kid Series has become one of the most popular book series of the decade. Written in a Diary format with daily entries, the book series is based on the character Greg Heffley and his life as a middle school "wimpy kid". Now we get to see his adventures brought to life in a live action major motion picture movie.
A relatively fresh group of actors portray all of your favorite characters in the movie. Zachary Gordon (also starring in the upcoming Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2) plays Greg Heffley. Greg is a typical middle school student dealing with his parents (Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris), a mean big brother, Rowley (Devon Bostick), a spoiled little brother Manny and weird best friend Rowley (Robert Capron). The cast of characters also includes Chirag Gupta (Karan Brar) and Fregley (Grayson Russell) who are two of the funnier sideline characters in the books. Fregley delivers his infamous line "want to see my secret freckle" in a convincing way in the movie trailer.
If the trailer for the movie is any indication of how good the movie will be, we are in for a treat. Upper elementary and middle school students will be thoroughly entertained by the situations that they see on screen that they can relate to in their everyday life. Adults will also enjoy the movie via the nostalgia of remembering just how hard those middle school years can be and enjoy the adult perspective of surviving it. The books were originally pitched by Kinney as written for adults. This adds to the overall feeling of the series: Middle School through a kids eyes - written for pure entertainment.
With four books in the series, this may be just the beginning of the Wimpy kid in the movies. The fifth book is due out in 2010 and will focus on Greg's last year of middle school. It looks like Greg's proclamation from the first book does end up coming true"I'll be famous one day, but for now I'm stuck in middle school with a bunch of morons." This movie could help Greg be the most famous wimp of all.
