Introduced in 2001, the Girl of the Year dolls are modern characters that are meant to give a voice and understanding to modern day issues. Girls can often relate to what the characters are dealing with in their lives. The Girl of the Year Dolls each come with books, clothing and accessories that reflect their hobbies and interests. These dolls are only available for purchase in the year they were released. From 2001 - 2005 the Girl of the Year dolls were released in odd years only. Shrewd American Girl Doll executives must have seen the potential and began releasing a new doll each year since 2006.
