Introduced in 1986, the American Girl Historical Dolls are chosen from different periods and perspectives of our nation's history. Each Character shows their historical period from the point of view of a 9 year old girl. All of the Historical Girl characters come with a book and some even have movies. The Historical Characters books have life lessons such as the importance of family and friends, responsibility and forgiveness.
Each 18" doll comes with Historically accurate clothing and accessories from her time period. By reading the stories and interacting with the dolls, girls are able to relate to how being a girl in a different time in history would be. The Historical Girl dolls currently include:
- Kaya®, an adventurous Nez Perce girl growing up in 1764, before America became a country.
- Felicity®, a colonial girl growing up in Williamsburg in 1774 -the time of the American Revolution.
- Josefina®, a girl living in colonial New Mexico in 1824, during the opening of the Santa Fe Trail.
- Addy®, a courageous girl determined to be free in 1864, during the Civil War.
- Rebecca™, a lively girl with dramatic flair, growing up in New York City in 1914.
- Kit®, a clever, resourceful girl growing up in 1934, during America's Great Depression.
- Molly®, a child of World War IIbeing raised on the home front in 1944.
- Julie®, a bright, fun-loving girl growing up in San Francisco during the seventies.
Two of the Historical Girl Characters, Samantha and Kirsten have been archived, so you can no longer purchase the dolls or doll's accessories. You can however still purchase the books and learn about their stories.
